またまた前置詞の「about」ですが
この「about」で非常によくあるのが、
何にでも「about」つけてしまう問題なんですね。
文法的には間違いとされてしまう
誤った「about」の使い方をおさらいしましょう。
【about】前置詞：～について、～に関して
「about」は「～について」という意味で、非常によく使われる前置詞の1つかと思います。
しかし、下にあるように、
一般的に他動詞の後ろには「about」は置かず、そのまま目的語を置きます。
✖ He didn’t mention about his job.
〇 He didn’t mention his job.
（彼は自分の仕事については触れなかった）
★よくある間違い★【about】 をつけない動詞
よくある「about」を付けてしまう間違いには次のような動詞があります。
– discuss
– consider
– experience
– aware
– remember
– describe
例文）
✖ We discussed about the next plan.
〇 We discussed the next plan.
（次の計画について協議した）
✖ I’ve been considering about buying a new house.
〇 I’ve been considering buying a new house.
（新しく家を買うことについて検討している）
✖ He has no experience about management.
〇 He has no experience in management.
（彼は経営に関する経験がありません）
✖ I am aware about the current problem.
〇 I am aware of the current problem.
（現状の問題については認識している）
【about】を伴う動詞ほか
逆に、「about」を伴って使われるものには、
以下のようなものがあります。
– worry
– concern
– complain
– happy
例文）
– I can’t stop worrying about you.
（あなたのことが心配でしょうがない）
– The high-ups are only concerned about saving their own necks.
（上層部は自分の保身しか考えていない）
*high-up： 組織の上の人
– She never complains about her job or her family.
（彼女は自分の仕事や家族について愚痴を言わない）
– He was not happy about the result.
（彼はその結果に不満だった）
【something / anything】を使う方法も
「～について」と言いたいけれど他動詞の後ろでaboutを使えない、という時に
「something / anything」を使う方法もあります。
✖ I cannot remember about him.
〇 I cannot remember anything about him.
（彼について何も思い出せない）
✖ He was just trying to describe about the man he saw.
〇 He was just trying to describe something about the man he saw.
（彼はただ彼が見た男について説明しようとしていた）
